Behind Closed Hearts

Behind Closed Hearts is a fictional novel. The book is based on four characters who are all experiencing challenges in life. There is a girl with HIV, a black transgender woman, a daughter who murdered her father, and a battered woman who puts her children’s lives in danger. As people, our initial perception would be to judge and shame them. This book is meant to take away judgment. It walks you through each person’s life to explain the why behind their situation. It also depicts how as a culture we suppress traumatic experiences which then creates generational chaos because of repeated cycles. Behind Closed Hearts verbalizes that a person cannot heal what they don’t speak. Because of this, as a culture we continuously put ourselves in positions to remain stagnant. There are four important messages to take away from this novel: Stop allowing children to think that any form of abuse is okay because it’s family. Stop exhibiting ignorance for what we don’t understand. Learn to understand that just because you may be broken, doesn’t mean you can’t piece yourself back together and heal. Allow people to live in their truth without judgement because you never know what’s Behind Closed Hearts.
